Kevin
My name is Amanda Fraser and like Kevin Brink I am from South Africa and I have also been living in the US for the past 13 years. I was only 3-4 years old at the time my parents and I went aboard in Durban, South Africa somewhere between 1960 and 1962. There are a few things I can remember about that day, like how hysterical I became when I saw the brass face mask of the diving suit that was standing on deck and I also remember that we where taken up in a chopper for an areal view of Durban and during the trip the side door of the chopper was left open and while banking the chopper over the harbor, my one shoe fell off my foot and blew out the door. When we returned we were invited by the seaman that showed us around to have lunch with him in the mesh hall(I am not sure but according to my parents it could have been the officers mesh). He also met up with my parents that night or the following night. Thru all of this I grew pretty attached to this person who was small of stature and had either very dark or black hair. Sadly my parents can not remember his name. When it came to say goodbye, he told my parents that he would like something of mine to remember me by and that if he has a little girl one day that he wants her to be just like me. My mother them gave him either my gold bracelet or brooch engraved with my name(my mother can not remember if it was the bracelet or brooch) We have talked about this person for the last 45 years and we are all very sad that we can not remember his name as it would be very neat to catch up with him or his family if he has passed on already. So if there is anybody out there that remember the events that I have mentioned or somebody that remembers seeing the bracelet or brooch, please send me an e-mail at amandaf1957@yahoo.com.
